Everything gets more costly! No worries, in this manual entry we share some ideas for fun leisure activities that save you some money and the planet at once.
VOLUNTEERING
Research shows that volunteering improves physical and mental well-being, enhances professional skills and boosts career opportunities. Overall, it increases one’s own happiness.
FUN, COSY, INDOOR ACTIVITIES
Invite friends and family over for games, a movie night, crafting, or just hanging out and catching up with each other.
Opt for board games, which you can use several times over or incorporate the topic of sustainability into the game. Plus, check your local libraries’ offers for lending (digital) games.
Crafting? Check out these Upcycling→ suggestions for your next project.
TRAVELLING
Opt for alternative lodging platforms such as homestay, workaway and home swap accommodations
Site seeing. Some travel spots could be accessed for free.

COMMUNITY GARDENS
Community gardens could be defined as ‘community-managed open spaces’, and are a good way to strengthen the community atmosphere in the neighbourhood. There is no single format for a community garden as it could be cultivated to serve as a food garden, a gathering area, playground.
GET BACK TO NATURE
Hiking, nature walks or just simply being still and quiet out in nature could do wonders for your health and improve your stress levels.
If you would rather be more sociable, you could opt for an outdoor picnic with friends and family.
Make it budget-friendly and sustainable by turning it into a pot-luck, opting for Sustainable Food Options →, and using reusable tableware.
LEARN SOMETHING NEW
Many platforms, such as Coursera, EDX and MITOpenCourseware, offer free, online courses ranging from languages and data analyses to sustainability topics.
Learning does not have to be too formal, though. Look for clubs and groups that could teach and help you improve your skills for free.
Learning languages? You can join local language exchange meetups where you can practice your speaking skills.
Want to cook new dishes? Join a cooking club where you can get like-minded people who also get excited about all things food-related. Depending on your city, some cooking clubs may have international members who could also teach you how to make authentic dishes from different parts of the world.
